Bass were biting back in the grass all around the lake, with winning tournament stringers running 27 or 28 pounds.

EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER

Capt. Alan Zaremba reported that peacock bass were biting fast-moving floating and suspending Rapala jerkbaits wherever you can find slack water in urban lakes and canals.

SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE

Some small redfish were biting around the outside islands south of Chokoloskee, but bigger redfish and some cobias were biting just offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. Snook and redfish were biting in Florida Bay.

SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE

Capt. Steve Souther of Fort Lauderdale charter boat Marlin My Darlin reported great fishing for dolphin 8-14 pounds around color changes and patches of weeds in 500-800 feet. Skye Molineux reported catching dolphin 8-20 pounds Thursday in 550 feet out of Hillsboro Inlet. Spanish mackerel were plentiful just off the beach north of the inlet.

PIERS

Spanish mackerel were biting around most piers, along with some bluefish and a few pompanos.

THE KEYS

Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada reported lots of dolphin were biting around grass patches. Keeper black groupers, some big kingfish, a few cobias and a mix of snappers were biting on the reefs.

Veteran’s celebration: Entrance fees at Everglades National Park are waived Friday through Sunday in honor of Veteran’s Day Weekend. There are daily ranger-led walks at Anhinga Trail and the Nike Hercules Missile Base, a relic of the Cold War, is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Call 305-242-7015.

Bassmaster registration: Registration for anglers who want to compete in the 2012 Southern, Northern and Central Bassmaster Opens is this month. The winning pro in each event qualifies for the 2013 Bassmaster Classic. Entry fees are $1,250 for pros and $350 for co-anglers. Sailfish Series: The Sailfish Pro Series kicks off with the first of four events Tuesday and Wednesday out of Miami Beach Marina. Registration is Monday at the South Beach Marriott. The tournament concludes with an awards dinner at Jungle Island at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The dinner is hosted by NASCAR President Mike Helton with auctions that benefit the NASCAR Foundation. NASCAR tournament: Fish with a NASCAR driver such as Tony Stewart, Jamie McMurray, Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman and Martin Truex at the Hot Rods Reels Charity Fishing Tournament Nov. 19 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
