Nov. 5: Author Pat Ford, of Coral Gables, signs copies of his newest book, Fly-Fishing Daydreams, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., The Fly Shop of Miami, 8243 S. Dixie Highway. Ford also will give tips for taking photographs and set up your personal camera for the best results. Call 305-669-5851.

Nov. 5: Volvo Ocean Race begins, with the six boats competing in the around the world event departing Alicante, Spain on Leg 1 to Cape Town, South Africa. The fleet stops in Miami in May. Visit volvooceanrace.com.

Nov. 5: Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Reef Environmental Education Foundation lionfish derby out of Hurricane Hole Marina and Restaurant in Key West. Teams of up to four divers can register online at reef.org/lionfish/derbies to compete for more than $6,500 in cash and prizes for shooting the most, largest and smallest lionfish.

Nov. 9: Capt. Ray Rosher seminar on bait catching and bait handling from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at RJ Boyle Studio, 5040 N. Federal Highway, Lighthouse Point. Cost is $20 and includes dinner and attendees will be entered in a raffle for a fishing trip on Rosher’s boat Miss Britt. Call 954-420-5001.

Nov. 10: Capt. Bouncer Smith seminar entitled “Trolling Deep: Wahoo and Grouper” from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Dusky Sport Center, 110 Bryan Road, Dania Beach. Cost is $10 per person and redeemable for merchandise at the store. Call 954-922-8890.

Dec. 1: Registration begins for 14th annual Broward County Junior Bass Tournament Trail, which features four tournaments on the lakes at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach and Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek.
