Get Lit wins record-breaking Silver Sailfish Derby – Sun

The Silver Sailfish Derby ended Saturday with the 46-boat fleet catching and releasing a record three-day total of 1,174 sailfish, an average of more than 25 fish per boat.

Kitt Toomey’s Get Lit finished with 58 releases to successfully defend its title in the world’s oldest sailfish tournament, which is held by the West Palm Beach Fishing Club out of Sailfish Marina.

Get Lit’s total included a record 36 releases on Thursday, when the Derby set a one-day record of 659 sailfish. The fleet released 365 on Friday and 150 on Saturday.

Jichi moved from fourth into second place with eight releases to finish with 44. Sandman was third with 42, followed by El Palacio De Los Jugos with 42 and Princess Lily with 38.

Bill Danko of Get Lit won the Mrs. Henry R. Rea Trophy as the top angler with 24 releases. Adam Cohen of Tales Gone Wild was second with 22. Tony Greaton of Native Son was third with 20.

Virginia Turney Adams, 82, won the Louis S. Boski Trophy for the most outstanding catch of the Derby for releasing two sailfish Thursday on Reel Lucky.
