Jupiter tourney lands 414 sailfish

JUPITER — The bite switched gears Friday on the final day of the two-day Jupiter Billfish Tournament, but still provided strong evidence that the area’s sailfish action very much is in the epic category.

The fleet of 39 boats caught and released 164 sailfish Friday to go with 250 Thursday for a total of 414 caught on a combination of dead bait and live bait. Dead bait-caught sails earned teams 300 points. Live bait-caught sails earned 200 points.

On Thursday, daily winner Outlaw, owned and skippered by Capt. Neil Subin of Sewall’s Point, finished the day with 16 sailfish caught on the troll for 3,200 points.

On Friday, the sailfish decided they preferred live goggle eyes, greenies, blue runners and sardines instead of dead ballyhoo.

Miss Annie, led by Capt. Mark Rabenstine, won Friday’s daily award with 20 live-bait sailfish releases to finish second overall with 7,400 points.

Doing It All, led by Capt. Mark Lamb, was the overall winner, catching 17 Friday to finish with 7,800 points. The all Stuart-area team aboard Outlaw finished in third overall with 5,700 points.
