North sports: West Palm Beach Fishing Club announced the winners of its 2011 …


The West Palm Beach Fishing Club announced the winners of its 2011 annual angling awards:

  • Gaven Engelman, 12, of Jupiter, and Carl Weigold, 17, of Boca Raton were co-winners of the 2011 WPBFC Junior Angler of the Year award.
  • Serena Wilson of West Palm Beach won the 2011 Beinecke Atlantic Blue Marlin Trophy. Wilson caught and released four Atlantic blue marlin in the Bahamas during a four-day period in July. The award is given to the club member who scores the most release points for marlin caught in Florida and Bahamian waters.
  • Mike Samuels of Palm Beach Gardens won the 2011 Tracy Schneider Memorial Trophy for scoring the most sailfish release points in Florida waters.
  • Sam Talluto of Jupiter won the 2011 James P. Nora Memorial Award. The award is presented to the club member who catches the heaviest snook in Florida waters. Talluto, who has won the award four times, caught and released a snook weighing 27.6 pounds in August.
  • Heather Murray of West Palm Beach won the 2011 Richard Jeck Memorial Billfish Tagging Trophy. The award is given to the club member who tags the most billfish off Florida and the Bahamas each year. Murray tagged and released 20 sailfish in 2011.
  • Joshua Anyzeski, 9, of North Palm Beach was the 2011 WPBFC Pee Wee Angler of the Year title winner.

FC Florida Soccer Club will host a developmental soccer league for ages 5-10 beginning Saturday . The program will be held Saturday s from 9-11 a.m. at Dyer Park, 7301 Haverhill Road, West Palm Beach and Digital Domain Studio Fields, 10250 S.W. Village Parkway, Port. St. Lucie. The program runs through March 3. Cost is $95 per player. Instructors include Tom Power, Asaf Lubezky, Ian Bishop and Tim Miller. Sixth Annual West Palm Beach Yoga Day is scheduled for Jan. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Meyer Amphitheatre in downtown West Palm Beach. Certified yoga teachers will instruct classes during the free event, and beginners are welcome. For more information, call (561) 281-5895.

Village of Tequesta Parks and Recreation Department is holding registration for adult and children’s programs. Adult programs include tai chi, mah-jongg, yoga and ballet. Children’s programs include combo dance and gymnastics. Fencing for ages 14 and older, and Zumba for ages 15 and older also are offered . North Palm Beach County Little League is taking registration for its spring 2012 season Saturday at the North Palm Beach Recreation Center, 1200 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach.

Palm Beach Gardens will be offering several new programs:

  • Boot Camp will be offered on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the Burns Road Recreation Center in Palm Beach Gardens.
  • Stroller Power will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:45 to 9:45 p.m. at the Burns Road Recreation Center.
  • Pumped up Strength will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Burns Road Recreation Center in Palm Beach Gardens.
  • ‘Sundays in the Gardens’ are social coed sports activities for ages 18 and up including basketball, softball, flag football, soccer and volleyball. The fees for each sport vary from $200-$375.

The North Palm Beach Country Club hosts 10-and-under/quick start division and intermediate and advanced-division junior tennis tournaments. North Palm Beach is offering Zumba fitness classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m in the Anchorage Activities Building in North Palm Beach. Classes can be bought individually for $7 for residents and $9 for nonresidents or in blocks of 10 or 20 classes. For more information, call (561) 841-3386.

The North County Aquatic Complex, 861 Toney Penna Drive, Jupiter, is offering water aerobics classes Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. Cost is $4 per class. A 10-class pass is $30. Call (561) 745-0241.
