Marlins play catch with dolphins – Sun

Miami Marlins players got the best of several dolphins during a fishing trip Monday out of Shake A Leg Miami in Coconut Grove.

Mike Stanton, Josh Johnson and Brett Hayes each landed one of the colorful fish and Bryan Petersen caught a bonito kite-fishing in 100-200 feet north of Fowey Light on Double D with Capt. Dean Panos.

“I’ve caught barracuda and small sharks, but never a mahi-mahi,” said Stanton, who took home fillets to have for dinner.

Players are taking part in community activities this week and Monday had them fishing with veterans — Marine captain Juan Fernandez and lance corporal Larry Rubino also caught dolphin — involved with the new Transition Reintegration Program sponsored by the American Red Cross. TRP provides help with housing, jobs and anything else veterans need to adjust to civilian life.
