Florida Keys’ Facebook Contest Seeks "Papa" Hemingway Look …

FLORIDA KEYS, Jun 13, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) —
If you look like Ernest Hemingway, you might win a trip to Key West.

Stocky bearded men who resemble the literary legend, who lived and wrote
in Key West throughout the 1930s, can now compete in the Virtual
“Papa” Hemingway Look-Alike Contest.

The person selected who most resembles “Papa” is to win a four-night,
five-day trip for two to Key West to compete in a preliminary round of
the 2012 Sloppy
Joe’s “Papa” Hemingway Look-Alike Contest staged during Key West’s
annual Hemingway
Days festival, set for July 17-22.

One photo per contestant can be submitted through the Florida Keys Key
West’s Facebook
page. Submissions are being accepted now through June 22.

Public voting is scheduled June 23-29 to choose 10 finalists. A judging
panel made up of past look-alike winners is to select the online winner
by July 2.

“For the virtual contest, I’m going to look for the guy that most
closely resembles Ernest Hemingway when he was older and wearing a full
beard,” said Chris Storm, winner of the 2006 look-alike contest and
president of the Hemingway
Look-Alike Society. “When I judge the real Sloppy Joe’s contest, I
also look for character and personality.

“Ernest Hemingway was full of life and so I’m looking for that person
that is full of life,” Storm said.

The prize includes a $750 air-travel card, accommodations for two at the Cypress
House Historic Inn, a day of fishing during the Drambuie
Key West Marlin Tournament and a Key
West Attractions Association pass for two.

Each July in Key West, approximately 125 aspiring “Ernests” compete in
the look-alike contest as part of the festival that celebrates the Nobel
Prize-winning author’s literary accomplishments, angling prowess and
exuberant Key West lifestyle.

Other Hemingway
Days 2012 highlights include an awards ceremony that caps the Lorian
Hemingway Short Story Competition and a tongue-in-cheek “Running of
the Bulls.”
