Keys kids win national weekly photo contest

Florida Keys kids Craig Tagliareni and Jesse Brady were among the first weekly winners (each getting a $100 gift certificate to West Marine) for their submissions in the summer-long Sanctuary Classic national fishing and photo contest organized by Long Beach, Calif., Sportfishing Conservancy.

Gift certificates will be awarded each week to the 10 photos receiving the most votes online. The weekly contest ends Sept. 3.

Photos must be taken in one of the country’s 13 national marine sanctuaries, and catch-and-release fishing is encouraged. Four marine sanctuaries are the focus: Florida Keys, Gray’s Reef in Georgia, and Monterey Bay and Channel Islands in California.

In addition to the weekly prizes, at the end of the summer four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to those whose photos best embody kids fishing, kids and family values, kids in the outdoors, kids in the sanctuaries, and conservation. Free online registration is required to submit a photo.

For rules and registration, visit www.sanctuaryclassic.org.
