Walmart BFL Tournament Results Weekend Recap for August 26, 2012

As the Florida Keys was dealing with Tropical Storm Isaac over the Friday, August 24, 2012 weekend, other states were focused on hosting a series of bass fishing tournaments. New York and Wisconsin were two of them. Each one hosted a Walmart Bass Fishing League event on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Here’s a quick look at some of the early results:

1,000 Islands Results

New York’s 1,000 Islands was the site of some intense fishing action on Saturday. A large group of recreational anglers battled it out in Clayton for top honors at a Walmart Bass Fishing League event. In the end, it was New York angler Frank Guarascio that reigned supreme. Guarascio won the tournament after wheedling 23 pounds, 3 ounces worth of bass into his fishing boat. Of course Guarascio’s success should come as no surprise to fishing fans. He’s been fishing in FLW events for some time now and it shows. His fishing talents on Saturday ultimately earned him a prize purse worth over $2,900.

Angler Kevin Bishop of Hilton, New York, also did well for himself. Bishop finished in 2nd place after catching 21 pounds, 14 ounces worth of 1,000 Islands bass. His efforts netted him over $1,400 in prize money. The tournament’s remaining top five spots went to anglers Joe A. Zombek II (PA), Dean Meckes (NY) and Mark Schafer (NJ).

Mississippi River Results

Despite its recent low water woes, the Mississippi River also saw its fair share of bass fishing excitement on Saturday. Over 90 anglers gathered in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, as part of a Walmart Bass Fishing League tournament. The big bass man of the day turned out to be angler Jim Caulum of Rockland, Wisconsin. Caulum won the tournament after finessing 15 pounds, 2 ounces worth of bass into his fishing boat. He received over $4,000 in prize money for his efforts.

The tournament’s remaining top five anglers really battled it out for their respective positions. Angler Caleb Kuphall of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, found himself in 2nd place after catching 14 pounds, 12 ounces worth of Wisconsin bass. He was able to walk away from the tournament over $2,000 richer for his efforts.

Angler Jimmy Johnson of La Crosse, Wisconsin, finished in 3rd place with 14 pounds, 10 ounces worth of bass to his credit. His efforts netted him over $1,300 in prize money. The tournament’s remaining top five spots were claimed by anglers Gary Haskell (IL) and Kevin Wolfram (IL).

Killeen Gonzalez enjoys fishing with her family. She has also traveled extensively.
