Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic Kicks Off in Florida October 5, 2012

Are you in the mood to do a little saltwater fishing this fall? Would you like the chance to win part of a $5,000 prize purse in the process? If so, you may want to consider clearing your calendar for the weekend of Friday, October 5, 2012. There is a great fishing tournament scheduled to take place that weekend in Islamorada, Florida. Here are a few more details:

Fishing Tournament Basics

The 5th Annual Publix Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic is scheduled to take place Friday, October 5, 2012 through Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Chesapeake Beach Resort in Islamorada. The tournament is named after the legendary Miami Dolphins’ football player, Jim “Mad Dog” Mandich. It is a charity fishing event that benefits such organizations as the Florida Coastal Conservation Agency and The Buoniconti Fund.

During the saltwater fishing tournament, participating anglers will be allowed to fish off the east coast of Florida in United States’ controlled waters. Targeted species include, but are not limited to, kingfish, dolphin, tuna and wahoo. Prizes are expected to be awarded based on aggregate weights.

The first day of the tournament is reserved for settling in and opening day festivities. The actual fishing is slated to begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Saturday’s weigh-in session and dock party is scheduled to take from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Chesapeake Beach Resort basin. An awards dinner and ceremony is expected to follow.

How to Register

Anglers interested in participating in the Publix Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic will need to pre-register and remit an entry fee. Mail-in entry forms are available on the event’s website. Additional tournament details are available online as well. The entry fee starts at $400 per boat. Anglers that wait until after Friday, September 28, 2012 to pre-register may expect to pay more. The entry fee includes admittance into the tournament for four anglers. A maximum of six anglers are allowed onto each registered boat providing that each additional angler remits the necessary entry fees.
