Wreck Fishing in the Florida Keys
Captain Dana Banks provides charter boat trips for saltwater fishing on many of the wrecks off the coast of the Florida Keys.
There are numerous ship wrecks in the Florida Keys. These submerged wrecks offer anglers the perfect locations to fish for a wide variety of the ocean’s bounty.
Key Largo also features six unique Sanctuary Preservation Areas.
- Spiegel Grove – A Navy transport ship sunk in June 2002 – 510ft long with an 84ft beam – one of the largest artificial reefs. Resting in 100ft with the top of the superstructure at 65ft.
- Benwood Wreck – A shallow water wreck – a World War II British built steel hull 360 feet long and a 51 foot beam. Sitting in 35 – 45 ft. of water.
- Bibb and Duane – US Coast Guard Cutter Duane key Largo, Florida. These twin 327-foot US Coast Guard cutters are truly underwater adventures. sitting in 100ft. with the deepest part in the sand is at 135ft.
- The City of Washington - A steam engine powered Schooner -a 320 ft. long with a 38ft beam and was built in 1877 – The Schooner carried passengers from New York to Havana. The wreck sits in 20-25ft. of water
- The 1733 Spanish Galleon Wrecks – the whole fleet consisted of twenty-one vessels, but less than fifteen vessels have been found – (The wrecks both lie within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and removal of any artifact, including ballast stones or timbers is strictly prohibited.)
